Letter 8 : Look at Us!

Dear Tim,
  Answers:
  4. When it's Dia de Los Muertos, people would go to the cemetery. So, Dia de Los Muertos resemble to the Tomb Cleaning Day.
  5. Orange marigolds are used to decorate adult's graves, and the white orchids are used to decorate children's graves.
  6. Calaveras are skulls, and Catrinas are a specific type of claveras, which is costumed as a well-dressed,  wealthy woman of the early 20th century. They are an important part because on Dia de Los Muertos, the dead are awakened to become a part of the community, people would paint their faces as Calaveras to represent the dead.

Greetings! I've heard of that you are busy recently, so you didn't leave comments. It's fine, I'll write a shorter letter.

Yesterday, we dressed up to celebrate Halloween. It was really interesting, we shared candies, took photos and had fun together. When we walked through the corridor, every one was looking at us, this was so funny! Some dressed up like a witch, Harry Potter, shark...and so on. So, who was I? I am "Po" from the "Teletubbies"! Have you ever heard of it? Angela, Candy, Hugo and I dressed up as the Teletubbies. We were the cutest, funniest and the strangest characters in our class, ha ha! And why was Hugo's costume different from our costumes? Well, it was because that the store which we borrowed the red, purple and yellow ones had lend the green one to another person. So, Hugo had to go to another store to borrow the green one, and it was funny that his costume was so different. This was no the only problem we had, Candy didn't have the hat, why? The store didn't give it to us, so Candy couldn't wear it. This was pretty sad!

By the way, we are going to attend the dubbing competition. I'm so nervous now! I hope I can do it well.

Best regards, Cathy.

  1. Dear Cathy,
I am the one who owes you an apology. I open up the file for each person in the class several times a week, looking for a new letter. If I see the same "top" that was there before, I just move on to the next person. For you, I would open the file, and see the same picture of the cloudy blue sky with the street light, and the cell tower. I thought that that was just part of an earlier, so I would close you file without looking any farther.
So I'm sorry about not checking more carefully, but I'm delighted to have you writing! Where do I start?
It's nice to hear that the cats are doing well. So Caramel is the lively, active one, and Herbal Jelly is the sly, sneaky one? We have the same situation with our dogs. The best hunter (for us, that would be Leim), are often the calm, reserverd type. The name "Herbal Jelly" , like "Nogales" (walnuts) is another good example that some names just shouldn't be translated. They just sound very, very strange in the new language. I was once introduced to a girl from Mainland China whose name translated into "Corn". For us, naming a person after a food is very strange. I didn't ask, but I couldn't help laughing to myself, thinking that her sisters would be named "beans" and "rice", and her brother would be "roast beef".
Looking at the pictures, it appears as though the whole class put a lot of thought and effort into their Halloween costumes. The idea for the "tellytubbies" was very creative (yes, I remember the television show. I don't see how anybody over the age of three or four could stand to watch it.). But the costumes looked like baggy flannel pajamas, and they looked very warm. Were they? Did you wear them all day? Was Hugo's costume actually a tellytubby cosume, or a frog costume that was modified to look like a tellyutubby.?
Congratulations on the dubbing contest. The dubbing for "Frozen" was better, but Patrick's editing of "300" was very funny. Please tell Patrick the it reminds me of some of the old Mel Brooks movies. I'm sure that he'll know who I'm talking about.
Please keep writing! I'll be sure to check your file a little more carefully in the future.
