Letter 13: Write for Rights

Dear Tim,
Last week, our class joined a special activity named Amnesty Writing Marathon. Each student needed to write two letters to governments or people. The people we wrote to are in predicaments, like: in prison, in the risk of being killed or lost his their home. The purpose is trying to help these people by writing letters to them, cheer them up or write to governments, ask them to protect them and stop attacking them. Write for rights!
I wrote letters to the governments of Peru and Egypt. One of them is Maxima Acuna, who is a peasant farmer in Peru. She has braved violent harassment and intimidation from the police for refusing to leave the land where she lives with her family. I asked the government of Peru to protect her and her family and make sure the police do their job. The other one is Shawkan, who is a photojournalist. He was caught by police because he was taking picture when the sit-in was disrupted by securities. Now, he is facing torments in the prison. I asked the government of Egypt to release Shawkan immediately and give him appropriate treatments.
I think if more and more people join this activity, write more and more letters, it sure can help those people.
These are the two postcards I wrote.↑

The newsletter this week is pretty interesting, but a little bit hard. I was trying to understand the histories of Christmas. It seems that Christmas was combined by many different cultures. I have never heard of these information. The part of Santa Claus is also interesting, the original one was totally different from the modern one. I think the modern Christmas has influenced by companies to sell their products, but I still enjoy this holiday. I like the atmosphere during December. But the winter this year in Taiwan isn’t cold at all, this make me very disappointed. Anyway, thanks for telling us the background of Christmas.
We also made a MV about a book. Every group needed to choose a book and make a MV to introduce the book. Candy and I chose a book named “I wish daddy didn’t drink so much”. It’s really fun while making the MV.
Tomorrow is Wednesday, we are going to be the hosts of English drama competition! There will be a lot of people sitting in the auditorium, staring at us. I’m so excited and nervous. If I could, I will share the photos with you next week. Wish me luck!
At last, wish a Merry Christmas!!
Best wishes, Cathy
